NEARBY PLACES > PRIMROSE HILL
Primrose Hill was originally owned by Henry V111 and was bought from Eton College in 1841 to increase the areas where commoners could take advantage of clean air and parkland entertainment.

It was once a famous duelling and prize-fighting area.

From the top of The Hill, the view is one that is protected and The Hill is nearly 63 metres above sea level.

The trees and foliage are kept low and to its north-east can be seen Hampstead.

On the slope of The Hill is Shakespeare's Oak tree", which was planted in 1864 to mark the 300th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth.
However, the tree now is a "replacement" tree, planted in 1964.
